Executive Director (Part-Time)
The English Learning Center (ELC) has been providing non-English speakers the opportunity to learn or improve their English in an affordable, inclusive, and supportive environment for almost 20 years. We take pride in providing English education that can open doors to employment, education, and community participation.
Position Overview: The Executive Director serves as the chief executive of the ELC. The ED reports to the Board of Directors and leads staff and volunteers to advance our mission and programs.
Key Responsibilities:
Leadership and Community Engagement
• Direct school staff and volunteers,
• Preserve ELC’s brand and represent the organization in the community,
• Explore and manage community partner relationships,
• Maintain a good relationship with the landlord; negotiate lease renewals.
Program Management
• Create and manage school program offerings, ensuring alignment with the organization’s mission,
• Develop a student and volunteer outreach program for each term with the Marketing committee. Maintain data on classes and students,
• Manage student registration, placement and collection of fees; acquire necessary books and materials,
• Oversee staff and volunteer committees with operational components such as training development and testing standards,
• Work with Program Manager on volunteer management.
Fundraising and Community Outreach
• Collaborate with Board to meet fundraising objectives,
• Work with the Grant Writing committee to identify new funding opportunities,
• Collaborate with Board on marketing committee activities.
Financial and Operational Oversight
• Manage the budget,
• Maintain receivables and payables, including data input in concert with Board Treasurer,
• Ensure staff and volunteer compliance with all operational standards,
• Maintain legal compliance, including IRS, State, and local filing requirements.
Board Relations
• Participate in Board meetings and represent all school operational activities,
• Maintain records and report key school performance metrics,
• Seek Board approval for significant changes to operations,
• Participate in strategic planning and develop goals to support objectives.
Qualifications:
• Bachelor’s degree or comparable experience
• 5+ years of nonprofit, English as a Second Language (ESL), or education leadership experience
• Proven management of people and organizations
• Proven success in fundraising and stakeholder engagement
• Excellent communication and relationship-building skills
• Strong technical skills, including website management, third-party financial and communication applications, and MS Office or similar programs.
• Multicultural experience
Location: English Learning Center, 2201 Dexter Street, Denver, CO 80207
Additional Details: This position is a part-time, hourly, non-exempt position—20 to 25 hours per week for 32 weeks a year. June, July, and holidays off. The executive director manages one part-time program manager.
Pay Range: $30 to $35 per hour. This position is not benefits-eligible.
